I confess ! I enjoy to be surprised by music. I have heard about Pan Aurora for a long time without feeling the curiosity to listen to their tunes nor read articles about this new phenomenon. Nothing. Nada. I only heard noncommittal informations such as « That’s awesome mate » or « Sure, You will love it » from generous fans with praises and superlatives. So, my mind and ears were like a virgin before their gig at the maison folie !
Sprawled in the design sofa I am drinking with The Experimental Tropic Blues Band’s musicians, when I am surprised by a sweet melody. This voice ! Of course… I already heard this kind of voice before ! But information percuss more slowly when our brain’s roads are flooded in lakes of whisky. Suddenly. Fiat Lux ! What a beautiful car. It is so obvious. This voice reminds me the singer David Sylvian and Tin Drum the great last Japan’s album. It’s not a forced mimicking. The Pan Aurora’s singer Jordan has explaining me that he’d never heard about David Sylvian before people talk to him about this astonishing similarity.
This Dandy’s attitude as David Byrne and David Sylvian’s voice, makes me feel like a surfer on a New Wave that breaks again. The band weaves a light and fragile Pop Music. On their first EP Inward, guitars and keyboards already created a fleecy, mellow and sweet atmosphere that spot the New wave’s influence without the smugly Synthe Pop. With Ephemeron, Pan Aurora makes their new EP warmer with more funky grooves. On « Sky Drop » and « Z », drum and bass guitar build a tough goove that keep us awake and ready to move our body on the riddance. Guitars and Keyboards on « Fact » reminds me Asylum Party (An old french New wave band signed on the label New Rose). Pan Aurora with their mellow New wave and funky grooves of Ephemeron convert the try scored with Inward.
